Recent Evidence Support Concerns Raised by Alberta Dentist as Author Calls For Reform are Ignored
RED DEER, Alberta - Californer -- Since publishing his tell-all book Confessions of a Former Cosmetic Dentist Dr. Michael Zuk has been fighting retaliation from his local authority but he now suggests the ban on his book could have led to gross overtreatment, and even deaths. "Recent studies are pointing to the overuse of certain high-tech X-ray devices called CBCT and increased cancer rates in children." The book referred to this topic as 'overkill with X-rays' about unjustified use of CBCT or cone beam dental imaging in routine screening and certain braces techniques.
A UK orthodontist, Dr. Kevin O'Brien, who shares the same concerns with radiation risks recently posted several blogs on the subject of cancer rates following advanced dental X-rays and noted backlash from his readers (link: https://kevinobrienorthoblog.com/risks-of-child-cbct-revisited/). His online commentary has also covered other concerns raised in Dr. Zuk's book which substantiate topics which the local authority felt potentially could 'harm the integrity of the profession.' The Alberta dental whistleblower says he is standing firm in his right to expose concerns that the public deserves to know about and says he continually writes to the Health Minister and dental boards in the hope there will be improvements.
