Over 100 expected for birthday parade to raise awareness for sarcoma awareness month
CASTRO VALLEY, Calif. - Californer -- Krystie Gomes (11) is an outgoing, fun, typical middle school girl. She goes to school, plays sports (she is VERY athletic), she plays club Volleyball and Soccer, loves her stuffed monkey, and her mom's cooking. Back in August of 2019 she experienced some leg pain which everyone attributed to a sports injury. When her leg pain failed to improve and she started losing weight, her physical therapist suggested her parents take her for an MRI. On Friday, January 24, 2020 Krystie was diagnosed with Osteoscaracoma Bone Cancer (https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/...). Since January, Krystie has already gone through twelve weeks of chemo, a 9 hour leg salvage surgery, and is currently going through a final 17 weeks of chemo. All before her 12th birthday - which is Tuesday,14, 2020.

Last week Krystie's Mom posted to a local newsblog announcing Sarcoma Awareness Month Krystie's Birthday, and Krystie's wish to donate some of her birthday money. Since that time, because Krystie is homebound, people from all over the Bay Area have rallied in support of Krystie, organizing a celebratory 12th birthday parade on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 @ 3PM. The parade will start lining up at 2:50PM and will drive by the families home on Crow Canyon Rd. As of this writing, over 100 cars are expected to include the Castro Valley Fire Department and The local Sheriff's dept. Parade Staging Begins at 2:45PM @ 9150 Crow Canyon Rd., Castro Valley, CA.
In honor of Osteosarcoma Month, the family is requesting that donations (https://give.ucsfbenioffchildrens.org/?utm_source=bcho&utm_medium=web&utm_campaign=BCHO_website/) be made to UCSF Benioff Chirdren's Hospitals Foundation in Oakland (https://give.ucsfbenioffchildrens.org/?utm_sour...) in the name of Krystie Gomes. A family friend has organized a GoFund me page (https://www.gofundme.com/f/campaign-for-krystie?utm%3Fsource=customer&utm%3Fmedium=copy%3Flink-tip&utm%3Fcampaign=m%3Fpd%20share-sheet&fbclid=IwAR2zgIyzxSq42q5kdfui6-szYs0mfwjlZNPX9uk0vhcU2rEbOepB3HQDNAY) for the family.
