Empowering local youth through education and community leadership
VENTURA, Calif. - Californer -- As the season of giving approaches, Cabrillo Economic Development Corporation (Cabrillo EDC) is proud to announce that this year's Giving Tuesday efforts will center around the Rodney Fernandez Leadership Fund (RFLF) Scholarship Program, a program that has changed lives and opened doors for countless students within the community.
Established in honor of Cabrillo EDC's founding Executive Director, Rodney Fernandez, the RFLF Scholarship Program provides scholarships to local youth and residents of Cabrillo EDC affordable housing communities, helping them pursue higher education and achieve their career goals. The program embodies Cabrillo EDC's ongoing commitment to building stronger, more empowered communities through education, support, and leadership development.
"We believe that education is the foundation for building strong, resilient communities," said Victoria Brady, Interim COO/CFO of Cabrillo EDC. "Our mission goes beyond providing affordable housing. We are committed to empowering residents and local community members through programs like the Rodney Fernandez Leadership Fund Scholarship Program. We are investing in the future of our community by supporting individuals in their pursuit of knowledge, leadership, and personal growth."

The RFLF doesn't just provide scholarships; it's a catalyst for change. Many past recipients have gone on to graduate college, embark on successful careers, and give back to their communities in meaningful ways. In a time when higher education costs continue to rise, the RFLF helps alleviate some of the financial burdens faced by aspiring students from underserved communities. By focusing on education, Cabrillo EDC furthers its mission of enhancing the quality of life for low-income families and individuals. Each donation to the RFLF creates opportunities for students to thrive, shaping a brighter future for our community as a whole.
Past recipients of the RFLF scholarship have often described it as a turning point in their educational journeys, providing critical support that allowed them to pursue higher education and develop their aspirations. With career goals that range from teaching and educational reform to other fields of community impact, these students express deep appreciation for Cabrillo EDC's role in helping them move closer to achieving their dreams and effecting meaningful change.
