SACRAMENTO – Acting Governor Eleni Kounalakis today issued a proclamation declaring November 24, 2022, as Thanksgiving Day.
The text of the proclamation and a copy can be found below.
PROCLAMATION
As people across our state and nation gather to celebrate Thanksgiving today, we reflect with gratitude on the precious bonds of family, friendship and community that unite and sustain us all.
We also hold in our hearts the memory of loved ones tragically lost during the pandemic and draw strength from the remarkable heroism and selflessness of people from all walks of life who have shown up for one another in countless ways over the last few years.
In keeping with this spirit of generosity and community, many of us will take time to serve others through volunteerism today, an opportunity to give back to our fellow Californians as we count our many blessings.

On this day, we also celebrate the diverse Native peoples who have called this place home since time immemorial. Let us recognize the immeasurable contributions they have made and continue to make to our state and nation and learn from their example to build a brighter future for all through partnership, respect and reciprocity.
Alongside family and friends on this time-honored holiday, let us reflect on all that we have to give thanks for and rededicate to our shared commitment to one another in the spirit of inclusivity and fellowship.
NOW THEREFORE I, ELENI KOUNALAKIS, Acting Governor of the State of California, do hereby proclaim November 24, 2022, as Thanksgiving Day.
