~ Governor Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency in response to the Bridge and Airport fires that have been raging in Southern California. The governor traveled to Highland, where he visited the Line Fire Incident Command Post and was briefed on the ongoing response efforts.
The wildfires, which have been burning predominantly on federal lands, have prompted a massive mobilization of resources and personnel. Governor Newsom has secured federal assistance to support the response efforts in Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Orange, and Riverside counties.
During his visit to the Line Fire Incident Command Post, Governor Newsom was briefed by CAL FIRE and other emergency response officials on the current situation. He also took the time to visit neighborhoods on the edge of the Line Fire.
In a statement, Governor Newsom expressed his gratitude for the hard work and dedication of all those involved in fighting these devastating fires. He also emphasized the importance of working together with federal and local partners in this effort.
The state has deployed nearly 6,000 boots on the ground across 162 crews, including firefighters, soldiers, and first responders. In addition, there are 51 helicopters and 9 fixed-wing aircraft being used to combat the fires from above. This includes 7 CAL FIRE aircraft and 2 National Guard C-130 aircraft.

With such a large-scale response effort underway, Governor Newsom urged residents to stay informed by visiting fire.ca.gov for real-time updates on active fires. He also reminded them to be prepared for emergencies and extreme weather by visiting ready.ca.gov.

This will help ensure that vital resources are available to assist with firefighting efforts in Riverside County for the Airport Fire and in Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties for the Bridge Fire.
