Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach officials unveiled the city's new Fire Station 9 at a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday, Oct. 20, at 4101 Long Beach Blvd.
The 12,779-square-foot, two-story station replaces the former facility at 3917 Long Beach Blvd. and will serve communities including Los Cerritos, Bixby Knolls and California Heights, according to the city. It can accommodate up to five fire apparatus and includes updated living and working spaces.
Mayor Rex Richardson said the station represents an investment in community safety and will give firefighters resources to serve residents. Fifth District Councilwoman Megan Kerr said the modern facility would help first responders train, prepare and respond.

Fire Chief Dennis Buchanan also described the project as an investment in firefighters and the communities they serve, saying the facility was designed around the needs of today's fire service.
Construction began in 2024 and involved redevelopment of the site and improvements to nearby infrastructure, the city said. The project was coordinated by the Long Beach Fire Department, the Department of Public Works and other city departments.
The station was designed to achieve LEED Silver certification and includes rooftop solar panels, energy-efficient lighting and heating and cooling systems, water-saving fixtures and drought-tolerant landscaping.
Other work included sidewalk, utility and roadway upgrades, as well as a new traffic signal at Long Beach Boulevard and East Randolph Place to support emergency vehicle access, according to the city.
