FULLERTON, Calif. - Californer -- Dr. Dallas Stout has donated his collection of over 160 early Boy Scouts of America books to the Special Collections Department of Pollak Library at California State University, Fullerton. His collection includes early editions of the Boy Scout Handbook, Patrol Leader's Handbook, & Scout Master's Handbooks among many others in addition to over 40 BSA Story books from the teens & 1920's.
"I collected these books for well over a decade as a teen and young adult", said Dr. Stout, "but I really haven't done much with them in the last 20 years. As a CSUF Alumni, I am delighted that my collection will now be available to benefit so many more people!" In coordinated the donation Lisa A. Mix, Director, University Archives & Special Collections at Pollak Library said "There is already a student interested in using them to research the history of scouting". Megan Graewingholt, Liaison Librarian for American Studies at Pollak Library added "There is definitely a scholarly conversation around the Boy Scouts, particularly regarding gender roles, soldiering, and masculinity/manhood since the start of the 20th century."
