BAKERSFIELD, Calif., Aug. 19, 2025 ~ In a recent victory for workers' rights, thirty drivers at High Desert Distributing in Bakersfield, California have voted to be represented by Teamsters Local 87. This decision was made in order to secure higher wages, better benefits, and improved working conditions.
John Moralez, Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Local 87, expressed his pride in welcoming the new members to the union. He also acknowledged the challenges they faced during the organizing process, stating that "union busters tried like hell to break this group, but they stood strong and united." Moralez is committed to helping these drivers win a contract that addresses long-standing workplace issues and brings them the respect they deserve.
Jeff Padellaro, Director of the Teamsters Brewery, Bakery, and Soft Drink Conference, emphasized the significance of this organizing win. He believes it sends a powerful message to High Desert's parent company, Reyes Beverage Group - the largest beer distributor in the United States - that these workers are willing to fight for fair pay and protections.
