Adventure Guides & Trailblazers is a family-centered YMCA program for parents and their children (ages 5-11) in the Conejo and Simi valleys.
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Californer -- Families are invited to kick off a new year of outdoor adventure, friendship and family fun at the Southeast Ventura County YMCA's Adventure Guides & Trailblazers Welcome BBQ on Saturday, August 15, at the Conejo Valley YMCA (4031 N. Moorpark Road in Thousand Oaks).
Adventure Guides & Trailblazers is a family-centered YMCA program for parents and their children (ages 5-11) in the Conejo and Simi valleys. Parent-child pairs join a Circle with families in their neighborhood or the school they attend. Adventure Guides is for children in kindergarten through second grade. Trailblazers is for children in third grade and up.
The program is designed to strengthen parent-child relationships through monthly meetings, outdoor adventures, community service, camping and shared experiences.

The BBQ welcomes returning Adventure Guides and Trailblazers families, as well as new families interested in learning more about the program. The afternoon begins from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. for returning participants. From 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., the BBQ is open to everyone and features a BBQ dinner and activities designed for the entire family. There will be a bounce slide, face painting, archery and lawn games.
"This event is the perfect opportunity for families to experience the spirit of Adventure Guides and Trailblazers and meet the staff," said Tori Cusack, senior director of Youth & Family Programs for the Southeast Ventura County YMCA. "Whether you're a longtime member or discovering the program for the first time, we invite you to join us for an afternoon of connection, fun and community."
The Welcome BBQ is $10 per person.
