FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., March 12, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Hyundai Motor America announced the continuation of its partnership with Children's Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) to strengthen its support of child passenger and pedestrian safety. The donation will go toward the hospital's Injury Prevention and Child Passenger Safety Program, which provides safety education and equipment for children and families in local communities. This support will enable CHLA to increase the number of child passenger and pedestrian safety events for families throughout Los Angeles and Orange Counties.
Together, Hyundai and CHLA have held over 10 child safety seat and pedestrian safety events, serving nearly 850 children throughout Los Angeles and Orange Counties and replacing over 125 car seats. A recent study focused on the long-term impact of these interventions, finding that caregivers who had previously attended safety events or training sessions are more likely to use car seats correctly than first-time attendees, underscoring the importance of ongoing education and the importance of this collaboration to improve passenger safety.
"Hyundai is proud to continue to grow our partnership with CHLA and strengthen our mutual commitment of improving child passenger and pedestrian safety in our communities," said Brian Latouf, global chief safety and quality officer, Hyundai Motor Group. "Child passenger and pedestrian safety is paramount, and education is crucial as it equips families with the essential knowledge and resources to safely transport their loved ones on the road."

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that nearly half of car seats and booster seats are either improperly installed or misused. Additionally, NHTSA estimates that safety seats can lower the risk of fatal injury by 71 percent for infants and 54 percent for toddlers.
Throughout the year, Hyundai and CHLA will host child safety seat inspections across Los Angeles and Orange Counties. Certified child passenger safety technicians will provide complimentary inspections at these events, checking for manufacturer recalls, expiration dates, and ensuring proper fitment of the seats for children. If necessary, replacement seats will be provided to families.
The partnership will also include LA Street Smarts events to promote pedestrian safety. LA Street Smarts uses a mobile, life-size set with traffic signals and interactive features to educate children about street hazards and proper safety techniques. The set was recently on display at the Lifesavers Conference on Roadway Safety in Long Beach, California, which brought together leaders and advocates in traffic safety, including federal, state, and local government, law enforcement, and injury prevention among others.
"We are very grateful for Hyundai's continued support of our child safety and injury prevention programs," says Helen Arbogast, Dr.P.H., MPH, manager, Injury Prevention Program, Children's Hospital Los Angeles. "Hyundai's generosity allows us to reach more children and families with critical, lifesaving child passenger and pedestrian safety information and to support the hospital's mission to create hope and build healthier futures."
This partnership is part of Hyundai's corporate social responsibility initiative, Hyundai Hope, which focuses on supporting families in the areas of health and safety.
