~ Hyundai Motor Group is celebrating a major milestone this week as its California Proving Ground (CPG) in California City, Calif. marks 20 years of quality and performance testing. The $80 million facility, which opened in 2005, has played a crucial role in ensuring the quality, durability, reliability, and safety of over 5,000 Hyundai Motor, Kia, and Genesis vehicles.
The celebration event was held earlier this week at the CPG and was attended by top executives from Hyundai Motor Group. Euisun Chung, Executive Chair of Hyundai Motor Group, expressed his gratitude towards the CPG team for their outstanding work over the past two decades. He also emphasized the importance of pioneering technologies such as AI, robotics, Software Defined Vehicles, electrification, and hydrogen technology in shaping the future of the company.
Located in the Mojave Desert on a sprawling 4,500-acre property, the HATCI CPG serves as the center for vehicle evaluation operations in North America for Hyundai Motor Group. The facility boasts a 6.4-mile oval track, a 2-million square-foot Vehicle Dynamics Area (VDA), a winding road track spanning 2.75 miles, a 3.3-mile hill road and various specially constructed roads that replicate U.S highways.

The team at CPG is responsible for conducting full vehicle evaluation and development testing. This includes activities such as ride and handling evaluations, Noise Vibration Harshness (NVH) tests and Heat Protection assessments. The facility also features three fully equipped garages and a material-weathering facility to accelerate UV degradation assessments.
The CPG is just one of many facilities operated by HATCI in the United States that are dedicated to design, technology and engineering of Hyundai Motor Group vehicles. These facilities support new model development for HMG's North American operations as well as global programs from affiliate sites located throughout the country.
As Hyundai Motor Group looks towards the future, facilities like the CPG will continue to play a crucial role in driving innovation and shaping the next 20 years of the company. With a focus on pioneering technologies and a dedicated team, Hyundai Motor Group is poised to turn challenges into opportunities and setbacks into successes.
