Director Eaton's sci-fi superhero short film has its world festival premiere from July 21-26 in the Indiana Spotlight 2 block where she will be sharing a Q+A session.
LOS ANGELES - Californer -- Kinetic is a sci-fi superhero short film shot on location in Indiana and stars veteran TV actor Amy Davidson (8 Simple Rules) as Aunt Drea and new talent, Violet Brinson (Sharp Objects).
Brinson plays fourteen-year-old Jess, who struggles through the changes of puberty in the absence of her mother. But when one of those changes turns out to be telekinesis, her small-town criminal family exploits her new powers to their ends. As Jess's powers grow, so do the rewards and the danger.
Writer-Director Kylie Eaton Kinetic feature script was a finalist in the 2019 ScreenCraft Sci-Fi Competition. She was the recipient of the Mary Shelley Award at Other Worlds 2019. Eaton is a passionate advocate for female representation behind the camera and aims to join the handful of women creating content in the comic superhero space.
More on The Californer
"In a world dominated by Marvel, DC, and other big comic franchises, the audience is yearning to see original content for the action-sci-fi-superhero genre. Not only does KINETIC present a new superhero in Jess, but the story is steeped in mythology and backstory that is slowly revealed throughout the script, and leaves enough open questions after a satisfying conclusion that will leave the audience wanting to know more about the world, Jess, her powers and her family."
