~ Long Beach Airport (LGB) has officially trademarked its new slogan, "america's coolest airport™," as it wraps up its centennial year. The announcement was made at a time capsule sealing ceremony held at the Historic Terminal building, where the capsule will be kept for 50 years.
The trademarked slogan highlights the unique and relaxed atmosphere of LGB, which has been recognized as an award-winning municipal airport. Mayor Rex Richardson expressed his pride in the airport's ability to progress and serve modern travelers while also honoring its rich history.
The ceremony marked the end of LGB's yearlong centennial anniversary campaign, which included special events, a new mural, a historic report, video series, and branded giveaways. Among the artifacts placed in the time capsule were letters from city leaders such as Mayor Richardson and City Manager Tom Modica, as well as photographs of the airport and city, newspaper articles, tokens from business partners and airlines, and more.

In addition to celebrating its centennial year, LGB is also embracing its role as "america's coolest airport" by introducing pop-up pickleball courts for holiday travelers. These temporary courts are located just north of the Historic Terminal building and will be periodically activated throughout the season in partnership with the City of Long Beach's Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine.
The creation of this new slogan was part of an organizational planning process at LGB that involved a multi-division planning team representing all levels of the organization. The team aimed to develop a phrase that would define LGB as it is today and set a vision for how it wants to be seen in the future.
Airport Director Cynthia Guidry stated that "america's coolest airport" is a promise to travelers that they will have a fun and first-class experience at LGB. She also emphasized that despite being 100 years old, LGB is setting a new standard in the aviation industry.

This announcement comes at a time of significant growth and development for LGB, which has broken multiple all-time monthly and seasonal passenger traffic records this year. The airport has recently undergone upgrades such as a new Ticketing Lobby, Checked Baggage Inspection System (CBIS) facility, consolidated Baggage Claim, roadway loop improvements, solar canopies, and restoration of the Historic Terminal building. These projects aim to enhance the overall travel experience from curb to gate and make it more convenient and environmentally friendly for passengers.
In addition to its modern facilities and amenities, LGB also prides itself on its deep connection to the Long Beach community. Located between Los Angeles and Orange counties, the airport showcases Southern California culture through vibrant local art displays, live musical performances, regional dining options, and community engagement initiatives.
A recent study revealed that the Long Beach Airport Complex generates $9 billion in total economic output and supports nearly 42,000 jobs across the region. With over 800 businesses thriving within its complex, LGB is not only an important transportation hub but also a vital contributor to the local economy.
