Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach, CA - The City of Long Beach is gearing up to host the 6th Annual Ranchos Walk on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024. This unique urban hike experience invites the community to explore the trail that connects Rancho Los Alamitos and Rancho Los Cerritos. The 9.4-mile scenic route will take participants through the highest points of Long Beach and Signal Hill, including Reservoir Hill, Longview Point at Willow Springs Park, and Hilltop Park in Signal Hill.
This year's Ranchos Walk will have an educational theme, "Step into the Stream of History," which will highlight local water facts. Mayor Rex Richardson expressed his excitement for the event, stating that it encourages the community to come out and explore the city in an active and unique way. He also emphasized that it is a great opportunity to enjoy the outdoors while reflecting on local history and cityscape.
In addition to the full 9.4-mile hike, there will be shorter route options of 3.5 miles and 6 miles available for those who prefer a less strenuous walk. The walk will end at Rancho Los Cerritos where participants can enjoy music, free refreshments, games, activities, and giveaways. Ranchos Walk merchandise will also be available for purchase.

Led by the City's Office of Climate Action and Sustainability and supported by various City departments such as Health and Human Services, Public Works, Long Beach Utilities, and Port of Long Beach, this event aims to promote active and safe ways for walkers to explore neighborhoods while discovering historic landmarks and vista points.
Fourth District Councilman Daryl Supernaw expressed his pride in having a portion of the Ranchos Walk journey through his district. He also appreciated how this event provides residents with an opportunity to learn about their local landscape and history.
This year's theme "Step into the Stream of History" will educate walkers about their local watershed, waterways, and historical drinking water system. Participants can access a free audio tour using the izi.TRAVEL app, available for download on Apple and Android devices. Registration for the event is free and can be done online at lbcity.info/rw.
Fifth District Councilwoman Megan Kerr also shared her excitement for the Ranchos Walk, stating that it is a fun and educational way for residents of all ages to explore the city safely. Additionally, this event supports the City's Long Beach Climate Action Plan by raising awareness of climate resilience challenges through its water theme.
