entertainer, entrepreneur and Kismet co ~ Long Beach, CA - The Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services (Health Department) has announced the opening of a new pet food pantry at the City of Long Beach's Multi-Service Center. This initiative is sponsored by Project Street Vet, a nonprofit organization that provides medical care for pets belonging to people experiencing homelessness, and Kismet, a pet brand co-founded by entertainers and entrepreneurs John Legend and Chrissy Teigen. The grand opening was celebrated on July 12, 2024, with Kismet donating over 2,500 pounds of food and treats for dogs.

Mayor Rex Richardson expressed his gratitude for this new partnership, stating that pets provide comfort, companionship, and unconditional love. For those experiencing homelessness, pets can also bring a sense of normality and family in an otherwise lonely world.

The pet food pantry will be available to anyone who visits the Multi-Service Center (MSC), which serves as a one-stop-shop for accessing homeless services. This means that individuals can pick up pet food whenever they need it as long as the MSC is open. Long Beach is now the tenth community served by Project Street Vet, an organization that empowers veterinary teams to provide professional and non-judgmental medical care to pet families experiencing homelessness or housing vulnerability. The Health Department has been working with Project Street Vet since 2023 to ensure the health of pets in the community.

Dr. Kwane Stewart, Founder of Project Street Vet and Chief Veterinary Officer at Kismet, expressed his excitement about this new partnership. He stated that he often works with pet communities that do not have access to consistent nutrition or care. Therefore, being able to open a pantry for those in need in Long Beach and stocking it with Kismet's high-quality dog food is doubly rewarding. Dr. Stewart was awarded CNN's Hero of the Year in 2023 for his dedication to animal welfare.

Legend and Teigen chose Dr. Stewart to join Kismet due to his experience in medicine and commitment to animal welfare. Kismet's Chief Executive Officer, Mathé Young Mosny, also shared their passion for supporting local pet communities and their pride in working alongside Project Street Vet and the city of Long Beach to bring food to those in need.

Every order at kismetpets.com supports the company's philanthropic arm, Kismet Cares, which benefits Project Street Vet and Paws for Life. Kismet believes in the transformative power of dogs as companions and rehabilitation partners and is committed to programs that give individuals a chance at redemption regardless of their past struggles.
