LOS ANGELES - Californer -- Matthew James' score to the upcoming horror film, The Djinn is getting released on May 21, 2021 by MovieScore Media. The album consists of 19 original tracks. The film, written and directed by David Charbonier & Justin Powell, is getting distributed by IFC Midnight on May 14, 2021. The film stars Ezra Dewey, Rob Brownstein, Tevy Poe, Donald Pitts and John Erickson. Some of Matthew's other credits include Arkansas, Black Lightning and Useless Humans. The score will be available on all major digital sites including iTunes, Spotify, Amazon and Apple Music. You can pre-order the album on Amazon here.
When discussing his work on the film Matthew says, "The Djinn is not your average horror film, it's a story of nuanced heartbreaking grief and overcoming adversities. Set in the 80s, I was able to marry a hybrid of catchy analog synth pop elements with dark and sinister orchestral instruments, wrapped together with my own solo vocals that I used to create eerie choral passages and effects. The audience will fast see the reason why that, "what is done, cannot be undone.""

The Djinn follows a mute twelve-year-old, Dylan Jacobs, as he discovers a mysterious book of spells inside his new apartment. Grieving the loss of his mother, and feeling isolated from everyone except for his father, Dylan performs a ritual that promises to deliver his heart's desire: to have a voice. But he soon discovers that every gift has a toll when a sinister djinn arrives to collect his soul. Now trapped in his new home with nowhere to hide, Dylan must find a way to survive until the stroke of midnight or pay the ultimate price.
