A bold new series all about the life and career of Stephen King will be launching at the end of October
LOS ANGELES - Californer -- The highly anticipated web series The Stephen Kingdom will premiere worldwide exclusively on YouTube this Halloween. Hosted by David McCracken, the series is an educational and irreverently comical analysis of the cultural and literary significance of Stephen King.
The first episode, "The Magic of Stephen King," will feature over twenty interviews with people who have been inspired by King, including actors like Nancy Allen (Carrie) and Kyliegh Curran (Doctor Sleep), writers such as Richard Chizmar (Chasing the Boogeyman) and Stephen Graham Jones (My Heart is a Chainsaw), online influencers like Sadie Hartmann (aka Mother Horror), and many more. The series will then continue with a multi-part exploration of Carrie, King's first novel, with numerous additional guests slated to join the conversation.
More on The Californer
"As a lifelong Constant Reader and someone who spends way too much time on YouTube, I have always yearned for an ongoing series about Stephen King," says McCracken. "Here's a writer who has been around for five decades and touched every nook, cranny, and shadowy corner of our cultural zeitgeist (not to mention our deepest, darkest fears). A figure this monumental deserves a series that strives to live up to his legacy. Something big and bold. Something fun, outlandish, and educational. Something welcoming to both hardcore King fans and newbies alike."
McCracken is best known for his work as writer/director of the 2018 action-thriller feature film Bullitt County, which was released nationwide in AMC Theatres and later on Netflix. His most recent work includes writing for the PBS series It's Lit! and he is an ongoing collaborator with YouTube essayist and New York Times bestselling author Lindsay Ellis. The Stephen Kingdom is produced by Mr. Pictures, an independent production company co-founded by McCracken and Josh Riedford.
