Diverse, one-of-a-kind conference that cross-pollinates literary and screenwriting opens contests and registration for inaugural event in Los Angeles, CA, Sept. 27-28, 2024.
LOS ANGELES - Californer -- Gertrude Press, a beloved, 25-year-old, queer literary journal, announces the launch of its first writers' conference, The Gertrude Conference, uniquely focused on cross-pollination of diverse voices in the literary and film industries.
Award-winning writer and former publisher of Gertrude Journal, tammy lynne stoner, co-founded the conference with literary agent Beth Marshea of Ladderbird Agency after decades of attending conferences that focused on only one discipline or the other.

"We are excited to create a space where different types of storytellers have the option to learn from each other and explore new ways that stories can be told, especially given the increasing hunger for adapted work these days," says tammy lynne stoner. "Screenwriters can learn from literary writers. Writers can learn from film producers. Playwrights can inspire with their dialogue. Poets can see the poetry of film and vice versa. And AI creators can show us the future while memoirists remind us of the importance of learning from the past."
The Gertrude Conference will be held in Los Angeles, California, September 27-28, 2024. The fully in-person event will include panels, workshops, and a gala award ceremony for literary and screenwriters as well as filmmakers, with five selected short films being screened at the event.
"Especially in this post-COVID, AI world, we want to build face-to-face community in a new way that inspires people to think about their art and how it can evolve," says Beth Marshea.
