~ As the 2025 presidential election approaches, California has once again found itself in the spotlight. This time, it's not for its celebrity residents or Hollywood glamour, but for its significant contributions to the federal government.

According to a recent Bloomberg column, California is the biggest "donor state" in the country, providing around $83 billion more to the federal government than it receives. This amount is nearly three times as much as the next biggest "donor state." In fact, without California's financial support, America would be a lot poorer and weaker than it is.

Economist and 2008 Nobel Laureate Paul Krugman has also recognized California's economic power. In a recent article, he stated that California is "an economic and technological powerhouse" that is subsidizing the rest of the United States through the federal budget. With a GDP of over $28 trillion, California accounts for more than 14% of US economic dominance globally.

When it comes to new business starts, access to venture capital funding, manufacturing, high-tech industries, and agriculture, California takes the top spot in the nation. With over 36,000 manufacturing firms employing over 1.1 million Californians, it is also the center for manufacturing output in the United States.

However, amidst all this success and prosperity lies a pressing issue that Governor Gavin Newsom is determined to address. In response to the recent chaotic and reckless immigration raids by federal agents, Governor Newsom issued a statement condemning these actions as "cruel" and "reckless." He also expressed concern over the arbitrary arrest quota set by the federal government.

In an effort to keep Californians safer from gun violence, Governor Newsom announced a comprehensive campaign called "Reduce the Risk." This campaign aims to educate people about the nine protection orders available and engage youth and community leaders in promoting gun safety.

Governor Newsom also recently joined Compton students to announce the Golden State Literacy Plan. This plan outlines a strategy to improve student reading achievement across California, with proposed investments in education. With this plan, California hopes to continue its legacy of being a leader in various industries and setting an example for other states to follow. As California goes, so goes the country.
