SAN DIEGO, March 1, 2025 ~ Native Forward Scholars Fund, the largest direct provider of scholarships for Native students, is gearing up to celebrate its 55th anniversary with a gala on April 2nd at Venue 808 in San Diego. The event, themed "Empowering Native Futures," will not only mark a significant milestone for the organization but also serve as a celebration of the achievements of Native scholars and the transformative power of education in Indigenous communities.
According to Angelique Albert, CEO of Native Forward and member of the Confederated Salish & Kootenai Tribes, the gala will be a night filled with inspiration, entertainment, and opportunities to make a lasting impact. "For over five decades, we have been empowering the next generation of Native leaders by providing support for Native students to pursue higher education. We're thrilled to celebrate our impact and our brilliant students alongside our supporters and advocates," she stated.

Since its inception, Native Forward has awarded up to $15 million annually in direct scholarships, student programming, and support services to over 22,000 Native students from all 50 states and more than 500 Tribes. Through their work, they have significantly increased graduation rates for undergraduate students to 69%, compared to the national average of 41% for Native students. They have also seen an impressive graduation rate of 95% for graduate students.
The gala will break away from traditional black-tie events with a reception-style format that includes live music and performances by Native scholars and alumni. The event will also feature the induction of the second class of Hall of Fame honorees, powerful storytelling, and opportunities for guests to support the next generation of Native leaders.
