West Hartford innovator develops concept that embeds navigation guidance into a continuous music experience instead of interrupting drivers with spoken GPS prompts
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - Californer -- The concept, called Garrisongs™, explores whether navigation guidance can become part of a continuous driving experience instead of repeatedly interrupting drivers with spoken prompts.
Traditional GPS systems rely on abrupt spoken prompts to direct drivers. Garrisongs™ explores an alternative model — embedding navigation guidance into a continuous music experience rather than interrupting it.
The concept raises a broader question about the future of navigation and driver attention:
Can guidance remain continuously present within the driving experience instead of repeatedly "snapping" attention back through abrupt prompts?
Leykam describes Garrisongs™ not as a music app, but as a new "delivery layer" for navigation guidance. Instead of replacing existing systems, the concept is designed to integrate with current navigation platforms and transform how navigation guidance is experienced.

"Today's navigation systems assume attention drops and must be pulled back," said Leykam. "Garrisongs explores whether guidance can remain continuously present instead."
The idea emerged from Leykam's longtime background in media, storytelling, audio production, and consumer experience design. In addition to his work in career development and technology education, Leykam previously worked as a record producer and recording engineer for London Records and holds a PhD in Marketing.
The concept has already generated discussion with professionals connected to navigation, mapping, and automotive user experience.
In the Garrisongs™ model, navigation instructions are translated into rhythmic or lyrical audio cues that are blended into a continuous music experience. Drivers could select from different music styles or genres, allowing navigation guidance to be delivered within the flow and tone of the listening experience rather than interrupting it with abrupt prompts.
Leykam emphasizes that the concept is exploratory and would require real-world testing to better understand how drivers respond across different driving environments, trip lengths, and guidance styles.
Garrisongs™ is currently patent pending.
