GET LIT BOOKS & THINGS CELEBRATES ONE-YEAR ANNIVERSARY
MORENO VALLEY, CA — September 6, 2025 — Get Lit Books & Things marks its first anniversary with a full day of community events, author appearances, and storewide sales.
Founded in 2024 by Danielle and Ruthie Myers-Porter, Get Lit is a Black, queer, women-owned bookstore and gift shop built on the motto: "Why Be Othered Elsewhere, When You Can Be Centered Here."
ANNIVERSARY DAY EVENTS
11:00 AM – Unicorn Story Hour
A magical storytime for kids to kick off the celebration.
All Day – Anniversary Sales
Special discounts on books, gifts, and locally made items that reflect the store's mission to uplift under-represented voices.
5:00 PM – Book Signing with Yazmin Monet Watkins

Watkins will sign and share from her book A Vessel Born to Float.
6:30 PM – Open Mic Night: "Celebration"
Community members are invited to share poems, songs, and stories on the theme of celebration.
A YEAR OF COMMUNITY
In just twelve months, Get Lit Books & Things has become more than a bookstore—it's a hub for connection.
"We thought we were opening a bookstore, but what we found is that it's a community space," says Ruthie Myers-Porter.
Co-founder Danielle Myers-Porter adds, "People walk in and tell us, 'I've been waiting for a place like this.' That's what keeps us going—it's bigger than us."
