~ California Continues to Shine as a Global Economic Powerhouse, New Studies Show

In recent years, California has solidified its position as a leader in the global economy. With a GDP of over $3 trillion, it is the fourth largest economy in the world and continues to foster growth in various sectors, creating jobs and driving economic activity.

Governor Gavin Newsom recognizes the state's economic success and attributes it to the diverse community of dreamers and doers who have access to venture capital funding, Fortune 500 companies, and a thriving business environment. "That is how we regularly punch above our weight in economic success on a global scale," he says.

Recent data highlights California's leadership in innovation, business growth, and AI readiness. According to reports, eight California cities rank among the top 25 fastest-growing for trade between businesses since January 2025. This is more than any other state in the nation.

Additionally, three city regions - San Francisco, San Jose, and Los Angeles - are among the top 10 in the country for launching big AI businesses. This was revealed in a recent report by Brookings, which also stated that no other state has more than one region in the top 10.

Furthermore, data from a recent report by the Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC) shows that nearly four times more companies launched their headquarters in California than relocated out of state. This further solidifies California's position as an economic leader.

The state leads the nation in various economic categories such as Fortune 500 companies, new business starts, manufacturing, venture capital funding, high-tech business, and agriculture. This success can be attributed to initiatives like the California Competes Tax Credit program which aims to invest in key economic sectors that will drive innovation and create good-paying jobs.

In line with this initiative, Governor Newsom has opened the first application window for fiscal year 2025 for businesses to apply for the California Competes Tax Credit. Special consideration will be given to businesses within the "strengthen" and "accelerate" sector categories as outlined in the California Jobs First Economic Blueprint.

As California continues to thrive economically, Governor Newsom has also called for the immediate withdrawal of all soldiers in Los Angeles. He believes that this dangerous militarization must end and is urging the President to take action.

In addition, with critical fire weather conditions forecasted to impact Northern California, Governor Newsom has approved the prepositioning of firefighting resources in Sierra and Plumas counties. This is a proactive measure to ensure the safety of residents and protect against potential wildfires.

The recent deaths of Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Detectives Joshua Kelley-Eklund, Victor Lemus, and William Osborn have also been acknowledged by Governor Newsom and Acting Governor Eleni Kounalakis. They have issued a statement honoring their service and sacrifice.

California's economic leadership continues to shine through various studies and initiatives that promote growth and innovation. With its diverse community, access to resources, and thriving business environment, it is no surprise that California remains a global economic powerhouse.
