Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach, CA - The historical Bixby Park Bandshell has been given new life as part of the Bixby Park Bandshell and Park Improvements project. The City of Long Beach is inviting the community to join in a celebration event on Friday, July 25, 2025 at 1 pm at Bixby Park (130 Cherry Ave.). The event will feature speeches from Vice Mayor Roberto Uranga, Second District Councilwoman Cindy Allen, and other city leaders. A ribbon cutting ceremony will follow, allowing for open use of the improved spaces.

According to Mayor Rex Richardson, Bixby Park holds a special place in the community's heart with its rich history dating back to the early 20th century. It has hosted various events such as the Iowa State Society Picnics and speeches by politicians like Herbert Hoover. The city is dedicated to preserving these historic and cultural spaces for future generations to enjoy.

The project focused on revitalizing historical elements of the park, including the bandshell. This involved extending its useful life and installing a new stage. Other improvements were made to enhance park security, visitor safety, and accessibility. These included upgraded paving near the bandshell, new ADA-compliant picnic tables, and improved access to restrooms. The dog park also received upgrades such as new fencing, benches, a hydration station, and a security camera. Additionally, lighting throughout the area was improved.

After the celebration event, attendees are invited to enjoy a free concert sponsored by Second District Councilwoman Cindy Allen's office. The concert will feature Bread and Butter, a Frank Sinatra tribute band.

Councilwoman Allen expressed her excitement about the project stating that it was more than just an upgrade to Bixby Park but rather a reinvestment in a space that has brought joy to generations of Long Beach families. She highlighted that every improvement made was aimed at making the park more welcoming and functional for everyone. She also thanked all the city departments and partners who made this project possible, as restoring Bixby Park was one of her top priorities since taking office.
