LOS ANGELES - Californer -- Sorra Books, an imprint of Shaherazad Shelves, will publish their first middle grade novel SKYLIGHT by debut author Patchree Jones on June 25, 2024. As a new player in the industry, this New York-based publishing house was founded by two Muslim sisters "aiming to diversify bookshelves all over the world." SKYLIGHT brings a unique Thai-inspired fantasy to young readers and highlights the struggles of straddling multiple cultural identities - sometimes without your own knowledge. It is currently available for pre-order from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Bookshop, and other major booksellers globally.
SKYLIGHT is a perfect read for fans of Hayao Miyazaki, giving cozy LAPUTA - Castle in the Sky vibes mixed with the coming of age adventures vis-a-vis Aru Shah and the End of Time. It follows twelve-year-old Sofia Luana and her best friend Cara, as they find themselves in a magical Thai, sky world filled with winged warriors, a shapeshifting bunny octopus, and an evil, warmongering sorceress. The girls must quickly learn about the boundaries of family, friendship, and how to survive a world where everyone seems to have their own motives.

Middle grade author, George Jreije of the Shad Hadid series boasts, "Jones delivers a thrilling debut that transports us across realms. Readers are sure to cheer on heroes Sofia and Cara, both because of their unwavering friendship and the unique strengths they rely on to do what is right. I could not get enough of the Thai-inspired worldbuilding as well as the way the story challenges traditional views of good versus evil!"
PATCHREE JONES is Thai-American author and currently lives in Southern California with her husband, two children, and one lazy dog. As a girl, she grew up watching Thai dramas with her mom and dreamt of being a playwright as a teen. While life took her on a different path, her love of stories never faltered. It takes a fighter to share their vision with the world, and Patchree hopes to blaze the trail for all children to go after their dreams unapologetically.
