Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach, CA - The City of Long Beach is taking a stand against single-use disposables by launching the third annual Bring Your Own (BYO) Month in partnership with the Long Beach Reuses Coalition and nearly 20 local businesses. This citywide initiative, which will run throughout the month of October, aims to promote reusable alternatives and encourage residents to reduce their use of disposable items.
Mayor Rex Richardson expressed his enthusiasm for the event, stating that "Bring Your Own Month is a great opportunity for our community to come together and make a real impact." By choosing reusable options and supporting local businesses that are doing the same, residents can take meaningful steps towards creating a cleaner and more sustainable Long Beach.
The City is encouraging residents to adopt simple yet impactful habits during BYO Month. Reusing items not only benefits the environment but also saves money and reduces dependence on single-use disposables. This initiative aims to protect Long Beach and its beaches by eliminating waste.
The month-long event will kick off with a free screening of the documentary "The Story of Plastic" on Tuesday, September 30 at 5 p.m. at the Aquarium of the Pacific. Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet members of the LB Reuses Coalition, whose mission is to promote reuse initiatives and reduce waste through engagement, advocacy, and collaboration.
