Long Beach, CA ~ # Drake Park Community Center to Reopen After Renovation
Long Beach residents are invited to celebrate the reopening of the renovated Drake Park Community Center on Saturday, Oct. 3, from 12:30 to 2 p.m.
The event at 951 Maine Ave. will include remarks from city leaders, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, refreshments and activities. It will also be streamed on the city's social media channels and Long Beach Television.
The renovation, led by the Department of Public Works in partnership with the Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine, included a new roof, updated lighting and HVAC systems, a remodeled kitchen and restrooms, a new gender-neutral restroom, and new furniture and office space. The work began in fall 2023 and was completed in summer 2026.

The project received $2.95 million in Measure A infrastructure funding, including bond funds, and $1 million in AB32 funds for energy-efficient improvements intended to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Drake Park has long served the Willmore Neighborhood as a gathering place and venue for city programs and community events. The center has hosted free youth activities, including after-school programming, sports, recreation days and summer meals, as well as classes and events such as the Movies in the Park series.
Mayor Rex Richardson said the renovated facility reflects the city's commitment to investing in parks and shared public spaces. First District Councilwoman Mary Zendejas said the center will provide children and families with a welcoming place to play, learn and connect.
The Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine said the improvements are part of its broader effort to create accessible, inclusive and sustainable parks. More information about Long Beach parks and programs is available at LBParks.org.
