"Messiah" was presented at Bethel Congregational Church as an annual event by Earle Blakeslee and the Foothill Oratorio Society, from 1945 - 1959, at which time the event had become so popular it was moved the Gardiner Spring Auditorium. The last performance was in 1970. In December of 2017, after 47 years, the Southland Symphony Orchestra and Chorus finally brought Messiah home to Bethel. https://youtu.be/eySeNZx5zZ0
The performance is presented at historic Bethel Congregational Church, which hosted the 1st performance by this group in December of 2017 The performance was the first with full orchestra, chorus and soloists in decades in the area. The concert was so well received that the demand for an annually recurring performance was immediate. The SSO & C is happy to oblige! "Messiah" is an annual event - something to look forward to every season!
