SANTA CLARA, Calif. ~ Santa Clara University has announced the appointment of Wilson Garone as its new Vice President for Finance and Administration, effective May 30.
Garone brings a wealth of experience to the role, having served as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Seattle University since 2019, and having spent two decades in various finance leadership positions at Microsoft prior to that. He is also a board member at Pet Partners, a non-profit organization with a mission to improve human health and well-being through the human-animal bond.
Julie Sullivan, President of Santa Clara University, expressed her delight at the appointment: "Santa Clara is blessed to have found in Wilson Garone a strong, values-based leader with a distinguished record in both the technology sector and Jesuit higher education. His unique skills make him an ideal fit as we embark on our next strategic plan for the growth and future of our university."
Garone himself expressed his enthusiasm for joining Santa Clara: "I am delighted to join Santa Clara, a leading national university and Jesuit institution that shares my passion for sustainability and the pursuit of an ethical and humane world. Service to others and diversity have been an integral part of my personal and professional life. I am honored to bring my skills—honed in technology and Jesuit higher education—to Santa Clara."

At Seattle University, Garone was responsible for transforming the long-range budget process to better align with the university's five-year strategic direction; increasing transparency through regular CFO forums and advisory committees; introducing critical scenario planning during the pandemic; overseeing the university's endowment; improving finance processes, reports, efficiency, and analytical capabilities; as well as implementing a vendor-diversity program to increase access by underrepresented vendors.
Garone holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Fundação Getúlio Vargas in São Paulo. He has also attended Harvard Business School Global Strategy executive program, INSEAD Finance for Executives program in France, as well as numerous Microsoft leadership programs including one led by Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer.
Garone is married to Gloria - a Microsoft group engineering manager - who grew up in Silicon Valley. The couple have two adult sons - Matheus living in California and Andre living in Washington - who share their parents' passion for soccer having attended several FIFA World Cup tournaments together over the years.
Wilson Garone looks forward to moving to Santa Clara area with his family where they can explore new restaurants together while actively participating in their new community.
