OAKLAND, Calif. - Californer -- Needle phobia, which studies estimate affects at least 1 in 4 adults, is a fear of medical procedures involving needles, such as blood draws and vaccinations – including COVID-19 vaccines. Many people with the condition avoid such procedures, and some avoid all medical care. The Needle Phobia Alliance, a new nonprofit organization, is conducting a survey to identify potential programs and services to help people who are affected.
The Needle Phobia Alliance currently offers online peer support groups, educational workshops, and resources and information via its website. Potential ideas for future programs include peer support services, funding for therapy, and annual conferences.
