~ As the state of California braces for extreme heat and critical fire weather conditions, Governor Gavin Newsom has taken proactive measures to ensure the safety of its residents. At the direction of Governor Newsom, the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) has approved the predeployment of additional firefighting resources in Inyo County.

This decision comes after earlier predeployments were made to Los Angeles, San Diego, Kern, Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Bernardino Counties in response to elevated heat and critical fire weather conditions forecasted to impact Southern California through Sunday. A total of 52 fire engines, 10 water tenders, nine bulldozers, five helicopters, 10 hand crews, 14 dispatchers, and two Incident Management Teams have been pre-deployed across these seven counties.

The preposition program is a crucial component of California's wildfire response strategy as it ensures that resources are ready to respond quickly in case of new fires. This approach has proven effective in reducing response times and containing fires before they escalate into major incidents. The resources are coordinated by local officials who identify when conditions in their community may require additional support and submit a request to the state.

In addition to this preposition program, California's Fire and Rescue Mutual Aid System remains available for emergency response support throughout the state where resources are needed.

With extreme heat expected across much of the state, California has entered Phase 2 of its extreme temperature response plan. This includes ramping up state and local coordination of resources to prepare for extreme heat. The State Operations Center at Cal OES is on an enhanced watch posture for both heat and fire conditions. Cooling centers have also been opened in communities across the state to protect vulnerable residents.

Governor Newsom urges residents to stay vigilant during this heightened heat and fire weather period by preparing a wildfire action plan, signing up for local emergency alerts, and visiting CalHeatScore.CalEPA.ca.gov for heat safety information specific to their area. For more information on fire safety and general preparedness, residents can visit Ready.ca.gov.

In other news, Governor Newsom has announced new funding to advance the Sites Reservoir project, which aims to expand California's water storage capacity and provide water to its 40 million residents. This is part of the state's ongoing efforts to address water scarcity issues.

Furthermore, in response to the recent Red Flag critical fire weather conditions, Governor Newsom has also predeployed additional resources to Los Angeles and San Diego counties. This decision was made in order to ensure a swift and effective response in case of any new fires.

A new report has also been released, highlighting the success of California's community reentry programs in reducing recidivism rates. According to the report, incarcerated individuals who participate in these programs are significantly less likely to reoffend compared to those who do not participate. This is a positive step towards reducing crime rates and promoting rehabilitation within the state's criminal justice system.

As California continues to face challenges such as extreme weather conditions and public safety concerns, Governor Newsom remains committed to taking proactive measures and ensuring the safety and well-being of all Californians.
