The Governor's proclamation was signed on April 30th with the Great Seal of the State of California affixed. It was attested by Secretary of State Shirley N. Weber, Ph.D.
This news comes amidst other recent developments in California, including an increase in population for the second year in a row according to data released by the Department of Finance. The state added over 100,000 residents in 2024.
In addition, Governor Newsom spoke out against House Republicans' attempt to overrule California's clean cars and trucks program, calling it an illegal tactic that would make California "smoggy again." He also proclaimed April 30th as "Apprenticeship Day" in recognition of the nationwide celebration of apprenticeships.
As Californians from all faiths and backgrounds observe this Day of Prayer in their own ways, it serves as a reminder that despite challenges and differences, unity and faith can see us through. With Governor Newsom's proclamation, May 1st will be a day dedicated to reflection, gratitude, and hope for all Californians.
