SACRAMENTO – Governor Gavin Newsom issued the below statement today following University of California President Janet Napolitano's announcement that she will step down next year:
"The State of California is a stronger and more equitable place because of President Janet Napolitano. During her seven years at the helm of the University of California, President Napolitano led the institution through extraordinary times, rising to every challenge that came her way, in order to maintain the excellence of our world-class public university system. We are grateful for her tireless work to build a California where all young people, regardless of their background, can access the transformative power of higher education. We wish President Napolitano the very best as she pursues her next chapter of public service."
