Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach Launches Mental Health Awareness Campaign and Online Wellness Hub
In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, the City of Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services (Health Department) has launched a new campaign to encourage residents to prioritize their mental well-being. The campaign, titled "Mental Health is Just Health," aims to raise awareness about mental health and connect residents with support resources.
Mayor Rex Richardson expressed his excitement for the launch of the campaign, stating, "We are excited to launch the City's Mental Health Is Just Health CredibleMind website to raise awareness about mental health and connect residents with support resources." He also emphasized the importance of learning more about mental health, supporting loved ones, and accessing tools that promote overall well-being.
As part of the campaign, the City has also launched an online mental health wellness hub powered by CredibleMind. The hub offers a free online mental health screening tool called SmartScreen Long Beach Assessment. This tool is designed to help community members better understand their mental health and connect them with tailored resources. These resources include online, local, and national services that support different age groups, substance use, eating disorders, veteran support, domestic violence, housing, and trauma/PTSD.

The SmartScreen Long Beach Assessment takes approximately 10 minutes to complete and provides users with personalized recommendations for local and online mental health support services. The assessment is confidential and available 24/7 through CredibleMind's HIPAA-compliant privacy and security practices.
To encourage community members to prioritize their mental well-being during Mental Health Awareness Month, CredibleMind is offering a chance to win a $100 gift card for those who complete the SmartScreen Long Beach Assessment in May. Personal information will not be shared with the City of Long Beach.
According to Alison King, Director of Health and Human Services in Long Beach, taking care of one's mental health is just as important as taking care of physical health. She stated, "Through this campaign and the launch of CredibleMind, we are making it easier for Long Beach residents to access trusted resources and seek support without stigma."
The launch of the CredibleMind wellness hub also supports the ongoing implementation of the Long Beach Mental Health Report and was made possible through grant funding from the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health.

In addition to the online wellness hub, the Health Department has also launched an awareness campaign focused on young people ages 14 to 24. Developed in partnership with the City's Youth Advisory Council, the campaign features Long Beach youth participating in activities such as reading, drawing, walking along the beach, yoga, and talking with friends to promote mental health and wellness.
The "Mental Health is Just Health" campaign will be promoted throughout May and June across various platforms and locations in the community. These include social media, local movie theaters, streaming radio stations such as KROQ and KEarth 101, bus shelters, Long Beach Transit buses, local newspapers, and light pole banners.
While mental health is often associated with complex emotions such as anxiety, depression, and stress, it is a vital part of overall well-being. The campaign aligns with Goal 4 of Long Beach's Racial and Reconciliation Initiative to increase investment in mental health and trauma services.
