Plank brings the smoke with new barbecue offerings

OAKLAND, Calif. - Californer -- Picture this: It's the perfect summer day. You and your friends are sipping some cold craft beer in the shade at plank Oakland's beer garden, and you're next up for a game of bocce. The only thing missing? The perfect smoke and savory sauce of that summer staple — barbecue.

Not anymore.

plank Oakland has transformed its outdoor kitchen into the Smoke Shack and introduced a new menu full of house-smoked BBQ plates, handhelds and classic sides. Just in time for summer, the new BBQ menu features delectable brisket, pulled pork and pork and beef ribs, all skillfully cooked in a huge, hickory smoker.

plank is also serving up its own homemade jerky, which is also made on-site and can be ordered in four tasty flavors — habanero, teriyaki, lemon pepper and chipotle root beer. It's the perfect snack to enjoy while playing bocce on the outdoor patio or bring home to snack on throughout the week.

"We're excited to bring our guests a new, delicious menu to enjoy while they're at plank," said Jorge Garcia, general manager of plank. "Whether you're here to enjoy our attractions, watch the game or just kick back with our live music series, we're bringing the smoke and the awesome food."

plank will be offering a Backyard BBQ Party promotion all summer to celebrate the new menu. Beginning at the end of May, guests can pair their delicious BBQ meal with fruity and refreshing seasonal cocktails and slushies and challenge their friends to classic lawn games, including cornhole, Jenga and Connect 4. plank's live music series will also kick off in June for more summer fun Thursdays in the Beer Garden.

The on-site, 1,600-pound capacity, hickory smoker has been added to plank without the need to do away with any existing structures or offerings. Fans of plank can still visit the beer garden, relax on the patio and enjoy plank's outdoor entertainment and dining, now with the scent of mouthwatering barbecue in the air.

The Smoke Shack menu joins plank's existing menu which features a variety of shared plates, hearth-oven pizzas, can't-miss sandwiches, brunch offerings and more that are all made from scratch daily, using locally farmed, fresh ingredients.

In addition to the restaurant and patio dining options as well as the craft kitchen and bar, plank offers bowling, bocce, an arcade and several private event spaces.
