Wine and Spirits Entrepreneur, Dave Phinney's Mare Island based distillery Savage and Cooke hires long time spirits industry expert Arthur Sutley.
VALLEJO, Calif. - Californer -- Savage and Cooke distillery, located just outside of San Francisco on historic Mare Island, which was founded by famed winemaker Dave Phinney who is also now known for his distillery efforts, has hired Arthur Sutley, a long-time bar industry expert and insider. Sutley will become the Director of Northeast & Strategic accounts. Sutley has been in the restaurant/bar/cocktail space for over 20 years where he most recently was the co-creator of Bar Business Magazine, the hospitality industry's how-to resource, which provided valuable information to the modern-day on-premise owner, manager, and food & beverage director on trends, new products.

Sutley, notable for growing businesses and profits for many industry brands led to many high profile media opportunities where he provided insight to many of the top global media outlets such as The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, NRC Handelsblad, Supercall.com, Thrillist, AOL.com, Bonfort's Wine & Spirits Journal, DrinkMe, Fox News, Fox Business and What's Eating NYC. Along with being a featured speaker at many major hospitality and foodservice tradeshows across the US. Art has also appeared on the Paramount Network's hit TV Show Bar Rescue as a Recon Expert assisting host and industry expert Jon Taffer. Sutley will be managing relationships, programing and sales strategy for the Northeast markets along national strategic partnerships across the core portfolio. This will also include the launch of Home School their Blood Orange Manhattan Bottled Cocktail.

Savage and Cooke distillery is located on Mare Island, near the city of Vallejo. Mare Island has a rich and colorful history; first as an important naval shipyard and today as a hub of activity including manufacturing, craft beverages, art, technology, and film production, all located on prime waterfront property. In 1854, Mare Island was established as the first naval yard on the Pacific Coast and was once one of the busiest shipyards in the world.
One of the most prolific winemakers in Napa Valley, Phinney then created the acclaimed flagship blend "The Prisoner" which later sold for $285 Million. Phinney continues to consult for Orin Swift and produces wines from his vineyards in France, Italy, Spain and Greece. Phinney began distilling spirits in 2014, which led to the new Savage & Cooke distillery venture.

Savage and Cooke produces Second Glance American Whiskey, The Burning Chair Bourbon, and Lip Service Rye, and Bad Sweater Whiskey all aged in Phinney's wine casks with water and grains from Phinney's property. Phinney has also launched Home School, a bottled craft cocktail line. The distillery will be launching their new restaurant on the property later this year.
Phinney recently produced over 100,00 gallons of hand sanitizer during the COVID-19 shortage in his commitment to helping the community and people all over the US avoid infection, transforming Savage and Cooke distillery into a temporary hand sanitizer production facility.
