~ In response to the recent news of a peace agreement in the Middle East and the release of hostages, Governor Gavin Newsom issued a statement expressing his encouragement and support for ongoing diplomatic efforts towards peace in the region.
The governor stated, "I am encouraged by this progress that moves us closer to peace, and I welcome the safe return of hostages. Every innocent life matters, and I support ongoing diplomatic efforts that reduce violence, protect civilians, and build the foundation for a lasting and just peace in the region."
Governor Newsom has been actively involved in addressing the situation in the Middle East. He recently visited Israel following attacks and met with survivors, impacted families, and officials. The State of California also provided support by shipping medical supplies, including field hospitals, to aid in humanitarian relief efforts in Israel and Gaza.
Earlier this year, Governor Newsom took action against hate and antisemitism by issuing a Golden State Plan to Counter Antisemitism. He also penned an open letter to California's Muslim, Palestinian American, and Arab American communities.

Last week, Governor Newsom signed landmark bills aimed at strengthening California's fight against hate and antisemitism. According to a new report from the Anti-Defamation League, California is leading the way with over 1 million Jewish residents as the top state fighting antisemitism.
Under Governor Newsom's leadership, California launched the Golden State Plan to Counter Antisemitism - a first-of-its-kind statewide framework focused on combatting antisemitism through education, prevention, security, and community partnership.
In addition to addressing issues in the Middle East, Governor Newsom has also taken steps towards recognizing Indigenous Peoples' Day. In a proclamation issued today, he declared October 13th as "Indigenous Peoples' Day" in California.
The governor stated in his proclamation that "California again proclaims this day as Indigenous Peoples' Day," acknowledging and honoring Native American communities and their contributions to the state.
As Governor Newsom continues to prioritize peace, unity, and inclusivity, his actions and efforts towards these goals are evident. With his leadership, California is taking significant steps towards creating a better future for all its residents.
