Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach residents can look forward to a summer filled with free and low-cost recreation programs offered by the Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine (PRM) department. Beginning on Monday, June 16, 2025, families, teens, and older adults can participate in a variety of activities by calling or visiting their neighborhood park community centers for schedules and registration.
One of the most popular programs is the Summer Fun Days, which engages children ages 5 to 12 in supervised fun such as sports, games, arts and crafts, and special events. This free drop-in program allows registered participants to come and go as they please. It will run weekdays from noon to 5 p.m. at various parks throughout Long Beach from June 16 to August 22. Pre-registration is required at program locations and can be found on the Summer Fun Days webpage.
For those looking for evening activities, the Be S.A.F.E. (Summer Activities in a Friendly Environment) program offers free recreation activities at 11 City parks from June 16 to August 22 from 5 to 8 p.m. Residents can enjoy arts and crafts, games, sports, science activities, as well as special events such as movies sponsored by the Port of Long Beach and cultural events. Families can also enjoy free movies in the park sponsored by Signal Hill Petroleum and Partners of Parks from June 16 to August 22 at various parks throughout Long Beach and Signal Hill. Movies will begin at dusk and attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, picnic-style dinners, family, and friends. The complete list of locations and movie titles can be found on the Movies in the Park webpage.
The Mobile Recess Program will also be available from June 16 to August 22 for youth ages 5 through 14. Trucks loaded with supplies and equipment will visit neighborhood streets to provide free recreational activities. Streets will be blocked off for safety and kids can participate in physical fitness and arts and crafts activities. Registration can be done at Mobile Recess locations, which can be found on the Mobile Recess webpage.
Music lovers can enjoy the 116th season of the Long Beach Municipal Band with performances in Long Beach parks from June 24 to August 1. All concerts are free and begin at 6:30 p.m. The schedule is as follows:
- Whaley Park North on Tuesdays, June 24 and July 1
