ATLANTA, Aug. 18, 2025 ~ A recent survey conducted by Equifax® (NYSE:EFX) has revealed that human resources (HR) leaders are facing difficulties in utilizing technology to their advantage when it comes to attracting, onboarding, and retaining top talent. The survey, which polled over 250 HR executives and professionals at the SHRM25 Conference, found that 50% of HR professionals consider using technology to automate workflows as one of their top challenges.
According to Chris Johnson, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Employer Services at Equifax Workforce Solutions, the increasing use of AI and emerging technologies has led HR professionals to prioritize automating time-consuming tasks in order to focus on more human-centric aspects of their jobs. "As technology continues to change the way work is done, the success of any organization ultimately depends on its people," said Johnson. "HR teams recognize this and are prioritizing the use of technology to streamline routine processes for their own teams while also enhancing experiences for employees."

One major challenge faced by HR professionals in today's job market is the prevalence of fabricated or misleading information on resumes. The survey revealed that 71% of HR professionals have encountered such information during the hiring process. This includes false employment history, educational background, and credentials/licenses. Despite this issue being widespread, only 20% of HR professionals feel "very confident" in their ability to detect fraudulent information.
Bart Lautenbach, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Talent Solutions for Equifax Workforce Solutions, highlighted the impact that these misleading resumes can have on organizations. "Employers may think they have found a well-qualified candidate, only to learn after a comprehensive background check that this person was significantly exaggerating their experience," said Lautenbach. "This mistake can be costly for companies, but with automated employment verifications, they can ensure a better quality hire and see a greater return on their hiring processes."

The survey also revealed that HR professionals are looking for ways to improve their speed-to-hire and onboarding processes. However, less than 12% of respondents reported consistently hiring candidates quickly, which can result in missed opportunities for top talent and negatively impact business performance and team morale. Additionally, 83% of HR professionals see room for improvement in their organization's onboarding process.
To address these challenges, many HR teams are turning to innovative technologies such as AI and automation. The survey found that 76% of respondents are using AI to improve efficiency in hiring and onboarding. However, there is still room for growth in leveraging these technologies to drive even greater efficiencies.
The survey was conducted at the SHRM Annual Conference in San Diego between June 29 – July 1, 2025, with a focus on gathering insights from HR professionals and leaders/senior executives. Out of the 254 responses received, only those from HR professionals were included in the survey results.
In conclusion, the Equifax survey highlights the challenges faced by HR professionals in utilizing technology to attract, onboard, and retain top talent. With the prevalence of fabricated resumes and a need for faster hiring and improved onboarding processes, it is clear that HR teams must continue to prioritize the use of innovative technologies to stay ahead in today's competitive job market.
