~ SACRAMENTO - On November 21, 2024, California's First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom led a Gender Equity Summit focused on women's health and safety. The summit, in collaboration with the California Partners Project, brought together thought leaders, advocates, and experts to address systemic change and raise awareness about key issues impacting women's well-being in California and beyond.
During the summit, First Partner Newsom emphasized the importance of creating safe and supportive environments for women to thrive. She stated, "When women are safe and supported, we thrive - and so do our families and communities." The summit aimed to bring together diverse voices to catalyze meaningful action towards a more equitable future for women and their families.
One of the main themes that emerged during the summit was the connection between mental health and overall well-being. Discussions highlighted that investing in women's health and safety has profound benefits for families and communities.
The summit also delved into various topics such as trafficking, the crisis of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women as a public health issue, Tech-Facilitated Gender Based Violence, toxic stress, intergenerational trauma, and engaging male allies in sexual assault and intimate partner violence prevention.
