Cassandra Wheeler (Kelsey Landon), a long-time High School Drama teacher stuck in a past prime program whose boss Diane (Amy Madigan) is out to nix her job, her long-suffering boyfriend Greg (Damon Dayoub) is sick of playing second fiddle to the high school auditorium, and her troubled daughter Ellie (Autry Haydon-Wilson) is growing increasingly estranged. Pushed nearly to her breaking point, Cassandra is forced by high powered agent Cy Argento (Ed Begley Jr.) to confront her complicated past when Branch Ravid (Ben Edlin), her most noteworthy former student – the one who made it big, and perhaps, the one who got away – has gone missing from the set of his hit TV show.
