Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach Airport (LGB) is taking its commitment to supporting live music to new heights with the launch of Airwaves: Summer Concerts at LGB. This exciting new concert series will feature three family-friendly outdoor concerts in the pre-security plaza just north of the Historic Terminal. To make it even more accessible, attendees will receive four hours of free parking in Parking Structure B.
Mayor Rex Richardson expressed his enthusiasm for this unique concert experience, stating, "Music is the cultural heartbeat of Long Beach, and I'm thrilled that we're bringing this event to such a historic and unique venue. Airwaves: Summer Concerts at LGB celebrates everything that makes Long Beach special - great music, local flavor, and shared moments with friends and family - right here at our award-winning airport."
The Airwaves series will take place on three separate dates: July 12th, August 16th, and September 20th. Each concert will run from 5 to 8 p.m. and is free to attend with an online RSVP until capacity is reached.
The first concert on July 12th will feature Sweet Soul music, a genre that combines soulful Motown melodies with smooth vocal harmonies. The headliner for the evening will be the Delfonics Experience, a dynamic trio known for their soulful performances of R&B and doo-wop hits from decades past. Other acts include Maria Sanchez & Midnight Groove and Tony Greene.

On August 16th, attendees can enjoy Rocksteady music - a soulful Jamaican sound that blends ska and reggae with laid-back rhythms and rich harmonies. The lineup for this evening includes Monty Neysmith, the legendary original member of Symarip, as well as Western Standard Time and The Trojanites.
The final concert on September 20th will showcase Latin Jazz Funk music - a fusion of Latin American rhythms and instrumentation with funk music. The artists for this event will be announced at a later date.
Each concert will feature two opening acts and a headliner, as well as DJ performances between sets. More information about the performers and set times can be found on lgb.org/music closer to the event dates.
In addition to the live music, there will also be children's activities, food trucks, and guided tours of the Historic Terminal. Beer and wine will be available for purchase, and guests are encouraged to bring their own chairs to relax in the open-air setting.
The concert series is being curated and managed by Soulside Productions, a Long Beach-based small business. Airport Director Cynthia Guidry expressed her excitement for this new addition to LGB's long-running LGB Live! music programming, stating that it "brings people together in a relaxed, welcoming environment that showcases the spirit of Long Beach."
