Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach, CA - The City of Long Beach Economic Development Department is gearing up for its second annual Summer Kickoff event, inviting young people to explore internship opportunities and other resources. The event will take place on Friday, June 13, 2025 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Long Beach Workforce Innovation Network (LBWIN) Youth Career Services Center located at 508 W. Willow St.
Mayor Rex Richardson expressed his excitement for the event, stating that by connecting youth with resources and training programs, the city is investing in the leaders of tomorrow. He emphasized the importance of equipping the next generation with skills and support to thrive in their future careers. With summer quickly approaching, Mayor Richardson sees this event as a great opportunity for young people to learn about paid internship programs and resources that can set them up for success.

The free event will feature information booths from approximately 30 participating agencies including City departments, nonprofits, and community organizations. These booths will offer a variety of programs and services such as internship and employment opportunities, job training, case management, mental health support, and more. In addition to these resources, there will also be engaging activities, creative craft stations, a photo booth, music, and food available for attendees. Those interested in attending are encouraged to RSVP online.
Bo Martinez, Director of the Economic Development Department expressed his pride in hosting this event at the LBWIN Youth Career Services Center. He extended an invitation to all local young people to join in on an afternoon of connection, engagement and fun while exploring exciting opportunities available this summer and beyond.

The LBWIN Youth Career Services Center is responsible for administering a comprehensive array of internship and employment preparation programs aimed at facilitating youth engagement in the workforce and enhancing career readiness. These programs span diverse sectors including public service, aerospace and criminal justice system. Recently announced by the City is their search for business partnerships for their youth work experience programs, as well as the application period for the third cohort of the Long Beach Public Service Corps.
This event aligns with the City's Summer of Opportunity initiative, a collective impact approach focused on fostering positive development among Long Beach youth while simultaneously addressing youth violence.
